Most of us face some form of illness at some point in our lives, which is a major concern for many of us. Diseases often bring pain, sorrow, fear, uncertainty, depression, loneliness, loss of confidence, and other negative emotions.
While some diseases are hereditary or related to aging, most are caused by unhealthy lifestyles, irregular diets, drug and alcohol addiction, inadequate exercise, unhygienic environments, and sometimes wrong medications.
It’s important to take preventive measures from a young age to avoid diseases. Building a strong immune system through a healthy lifestyle is crucial. Avoiding junk food, excess sugar, fatty foods, and too much salt is beneficial. Eating more vegetables, fruits, nuts, and protein-rich foods, along with regular exercise, can help strengthen the immune system to fight against diseases. Regular health check-ups can also raise awareness about our health and help us take necessary precautions.
Despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle, we may still encounter diseases. We need God’s grace to overcome illness and live a healthy life.
Sincere prayer brings healing. God can guide us to the right doctors, hospitals, and medications to help us overcome diseases. He also gives us the strength to endure sickness and sends good-hearted individuals to support us during difficult times.
In addition to our prayers, we can reach out to praying friends for support.
When Jesus lived on earth, He performed many miracles and healed people from various diseases. By reflecting on these biblical accounts, we can strengthen our faith and pray to God for healing from our current illnesses.
Mathew 4:23-25 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
Mark 1:29-31 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand, and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
Mark 1:40-42 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately leprosy left him and he was cured.
Mathew 8: 5-13 “When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering.” Jesus said to him, “I will go and heal him.” The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed … Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.”
Mathew 9: 20-22 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment
Following are some references from Bible on how people prayed for their healing, after receiving healing from God how they thanked God. Also how they have shown their confidence in God about His healing power.
Psalm 6:1-8 O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in anguish. How long, O Lord, how long? Turn, O Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. No one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from the grave? I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
Psalm 30:2-5 O Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. O Lord, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:2-4 O Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. O Lord, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; praise his holy name.
Psalm 103: 1-5 Praise the Lord , O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Let us Pray:
“Heavenly Father, You know my illness and how desperately I seek Your healing touch. I am weak and helpless. Lord, have mercy on me and forgive all my sins. Grant the doctor the wisdom to prescribe the right medicines. Help me endure the pain and achieve restful sleep. Remove my fear and depression. Lord, please send Your angels to comfort me. Heal my disease completely and strengthen me so that I can thank You and share Your miracles with everyone. You are a compassionate and merciful God. Heal me fully and bring joy to my life. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.”
